How to Get a QR Code for a Spotify Song: A Step-by-Step Guide
Whether you are an independent artist looking to promote your latest track on flyers, a creator curating the ultimate soundtrack, or simply trying to share a favorite song with a friend on physical merchandise or a custom greeting card, using a QR code is one of the easiest ways to bridge the physical and digital worlds.
When it comes to sharing music from Spotify, you generally have two choices: Spotify’s native soundwave “Spotify Codes” or a standard scannable QR code. This guide will walk you through how to get both, so you can pick the best option for your needs.
Method 1: Creating a Standard QR Code (Scannable by Any Camera)
If you want a traditional black-and-white (or custom-colored) square QR code that any smartphone camera can scan—ideal for posters, business cards, or print media—you’ll need to generate one using the song’s URL.
Step 1: Copy the Song Link from Spotify
- Open the Spotify app on your phone or desktop.
- Navigate to the song you want to share.
- Click or tap the three dots (…) menu icon next to the track.
- Select Share, then click or tap Copy link.
Step 2: Use a QR Code Generator
- Open a reliable online QR code generator (such as The QR Code Generator, ME-QR, or QRKIT).
- Choose the URL option or look for a dedicated Spotify QR Code solution if the platform provides one.
- Paste your copied Spotify song link into the text field.
Step 3: Customize and Download
- Adjust the style, add a frame (like “Scan to Listen”), or incorporate the Spotify green accent color if desired.
- Test the code with your phone camera to ensure it successfully launches the song.
- Download the code as a high-resolution image (PNG or SVG) to use on your flyers, social media, or merch.
Method 2: Using Spotify’s Native “Spotify Code” (Soundwave Style)
Spotify has a built-in feature that generates a unique soundwave-like graphic for every track, album, and playlist. While it isn’t a traditional boxy QR code, it serves the exact same purpose for anyone scanning it inside the Spotify app.
- Open the Spotify app on your iOS or Android device.
- Go to the song you want to share.
- Tap the three dots (…) in the top-right or next to the track title.
- At the bottom of the album art preview sheet, you will see a visual bar code resembling a soundwave with a Spotify logo.
- Tap Save to Photos (or screenshot the screen) to save the image to your device. You can now text this image, print it, or share it anywhere.
Note on scanning: To scan a native Spotify Code, friends don’t need a camera app. They just open Spotify, tap the search icon, click the camera icon in the search bar, and point it at the code!
Best Practices for Printing and Sharing
- Keep Contrast High: If you customize a standard QR code, always use a dark pattern on a light background. Inverting colors (light codes on dark backgrounds) can occasionally cause older smartphone cameras to fail scanning.
- Watch Your Sizing: Ensure your printed QR code is at least 2 × 2 cm (about 0.8 inches) so that phone cameras can easily focus on it from a normal distance.
- Always Test First: Before printing hundreds of stickers or concert flyers, scan your newly generated code using both an iPhone and an Android device to confirm it routes straight to the correct track.
