Navigating Midjourney Gratis: Can You Still Use the King of AI Art for Free?
If you have spent any time exploring the landscape of artificial intelligence, you have likely marveled at the hyper-realistic, painterly, and dreamlike outputs of Midjourney. Widely considered the gold standard for aesthetic quality in AI image generation, it turns text prompts into breathtaking digital masterpieces.
Naturally, the most common question on every digital artist’s and creator’s mind is: Can I use Midjourney gratis (for free)?
The short answer requires a bit of nuance. While Midjourney historically offered a generous open-access free trial on Discord, overwhelming demand forced the platform to suspend its standard free tier. However, clever workarounds, companion apps, and platform integrations still offer ways to experience Midjourney’s technological magic without opening your wallet.
1. The Official Route: The Niji Journey Mobile App
While the core web interface (midjourney.com) and its legacy Discord bot require a paid subscription, Midjourney maintains an official alternative route via niji·journey.
- What it is: Niji·journey is a companion app created in collaboration with Spellbrush that utilizes Midjourney’s core rendering engine specifically tuned for anime, manga, and stylized illustration.
- The Free Option: Eligible new users who download the official mobile app for iOS or Android can secure a limited trial offering a fixed batch of free generations (typically around 20 free images).
- How to access it: Head to your phone’s App Store or Google Play Store, download the official niji·journey app, sign in, and check the live onboarding prompt for your complimentary generations.
