Streamline Your Screen: How to Unsubscribe from Unwanted Airtel DTH Channels
Got tired of paying for television channels that nobody in your household watches? With the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) framework, managing your DTH subscription has become completely transparent. You only pay for what you actually view.
If you want to trim down your monthly entertainment bill by removing specific paid channels or broadcaster packs from your Airtel Digital TV (DTH) connection, you can do it within minutes. Here is a complete, step-by-step guide detailing the easiest ways to drop unwanted channels.
Method 1: The Quick SMS Route
If you prefer a quick text message solution without fiddling with apps or websites, you can use Airtel’s dedicated SMS service.
- Find the Channel Number: Note down the exact channel number of the channel you want to drop.
- Draft the Message: Type an SMS in the following format:
REM <Channel Number>(For example:REM 452) - Send to: Mail this text to 54325 from your Registered Mobile Number (RMN).
- Confirm: You will receive a confirmation message shortly, and the channel will be removed from your active pack.
Note: If you are sending the request from a non-registered mobile number, you may need to append your Airtel DTH Customer ID to the message text as instructed by customer service guidelines.
Method 2: Using the Airtel Thanks App (Smartphone)
For a visual breakdown of your active pack where you can pick and choose what to discard, the Airtel Thanks app is the most convenient tool.
- Open the Airtel Thanks app on your smartphone.
- Navigate to the DTH or Services section linked to your account dashboard.
- Select Manage TV Channels or look for options to Edit Current Plan.
- Browse through your active a-la-carte channels or broadcaster bouquets.
- Deselect or uncheck the channels you wish to drop.
- Review the updated monthly summary and hit Confirm / Proceed to finalize changes. Your pack will update instantly.
Method 3: Directly via Your TV Screen (Channel 998)
You don’t even need a smartphone if you are sitting right in front of your television. Your set-top box can guide you through the modification process.
- Turn on your TV and your Airtel DTH set-top box.
- Tune in to Channel No. 998. This is Airtel’s dedicated self-care and account management channel.
- Follow the on-screen instructions using your DTH remote control to navigate to the Modify/Edit Pack or Add/Remove Channels section.
- Select the channels you want to remove.
- A confirmation code will appear on your screen. Send that exact code via SMS to 54325 from your registered mobile number to execute the change.
Method 4: Through the Official Airtel Website
If you prefer managing things via a desktop or mobile browser:
- Head over to the official Airtel website and log into your account using your registered mobile number or DTH Customer ID.
- Go to the DTH section under your connections.
- Click on Manage TV Channels and select Edit Current Plan.
- Uncheck the paid channels you want to get rid of, review the final bill layout, and click Confirm.
Pro-Tip for Maximum Savings
Before unsubscribing, take a close look at whether the channel you want to drop is part of a larger Broadcaster Bouquet (like Star, Zee, or Sony packs). Sometimes, removing an individual channel saves a nominal amount, but shifting entire bouquets or restructuring your base pack can optimize your monthly out-of-pocket expenses even further.
